Details on the ambition and requirements of the call are explained in the call text document (here as PDF). Projects started from May 2019 and will close at the latest in December 2022.
The European Union emphasizes the need to fundamentally transform our energy systems towards a sustainable, low carbon and climate-friendly economy. Innovative and competitive European companies should provide technology and services to deliver energy efficiency and low carbon energy solutions, inside and outside Europe. The European Union’s target is to become a leading region in renewable energy, reducing its dependency on fossil fuels and cut CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030. ERA-Net SES aims to contribute to this process, and especially Action 4 of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan: "To increase the resilience and security of the energy system”.
The focus of the ERA-Net SES 2018 joint call (RegSys) is to support RDI initiatives contributing to the development of Integrated Local and Regional Energy Systems, and find solutions to efficiently provide, host and utilize high shares of renewables, up to and beyond 100% in the local or regional supply by 2030. Projects are asked to identify and address specific critical needs within a regional/local energy system, and to involve "need-owner(s)” and relevant stakeholders in co-creating Solutions.
